Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) develops plans to guide its future goals, led by our comprehensive Strategic Business Plan. For details of our past and present performance, browse our reports for all services.

Below are our most commonly requested plans:

  • Solid Waste Management Plan: View our current goals to prevent waste, increase recycling and composting, and improve services.
  • Zero Waste Study (Recycling and Waste Reduction Study): Learn how we strive to divert significant tonnage away from landfill disposal.
  • Drinking Water Planning: These plans are developed for meeting current and future water demands, maintaining the water system, and adhering to drinking water quality regulations.
  • Sewer & Drainage Planning: Long-range planning guides SPU's decisions about and investments in the drainage and wastewater system, including system planning, waterway protection, and the Stormwater Management Plan.

A variety of public records are available online free of charge here and elsewhere on SPU's website. These records include service level reports, comprehensive plans, design standards and specifications, project information, and many more documents. If you require a report not included on this website, you can submit a public disclosure request for public records from SPU. All records will be released if they do not fall within the specific exemptions of the Public Records Act or other statutes which exempt or prohibit disclosure of specific information or records. There is no charge for inspecting public records.
