Building Safety Month

Mayor Bruce Harrell proclaimed May 2023 Building Safety Month in support of the national celebration of building safety sponsored by the International Code Council. This year’s Building Safety Month theme was Building Safety Starts at Home and Prepare Your Community.

As part of Building Safety Month, and in collaboration with the One Seattle Day of Service, we hosted two online lectures on May 20th.

Preparing yourself when shift happens: Earthquake readiness for the city and household

Earthquake readiness video

Learn about the different earthquake sources that can impact Seattle, what makes buildings vulnerable in an earthquake, and how building codes and retrofits increase life safety. Attendees will have ample opportunities to ask questions about earthquake scenarios, preparedness actions, and even recent international earthquake events.

SDCI Building and Electrical Inspections Processes

Building and Electrical Inspections

Learn why building codes and inspections play such an important role during construction and how simple things can make our homes a little safer. Understand the SDCI electrical inspection process, photovoltaic and electrical home safety, electrical permits and hiring an electrical contractor to safely complete the work. Questions are encouraged during the presentation.

We were proud to be part of the International Code Council’s Building Safety Month and to support the One Seattle Day of Service. Building Safety Month is held every May to help raise awareness of building safety issues. The One Seattle Day of Service is an opportunity for every Seattle neighbor to participate in volunteer opportunities to give back to neighborhoods across the city.
