In most years, the Cedar River hosts the largest return of naturally spawning Chinook in the Lake Washington Basin. Bear Creek, a tributary to the Sammamish River, typically hosts the second largest return of naturally spawning Chinook salmon. Of the fish that spawn in Bear Creek, the proportion of hatchery fish is usually much greater than in the Cedar River.
