Bull Trout Distribution

BLT-survey

Bull trout distribution surveys were conducted along the Cedar River

We conducted periodic qualitative surveys of fish-accessible stream reaches from 2000 through 2011 to document bull trout distribution and habitat use in tributary streams within the Chester Morse Lake basin. As fish passage barriers were removed and access to habitat restored, surveys were conducted to assess bull trout presence and timing of recolonization of this newly accessible habitat.

Although other bull trout populations are known to extensively utilize the upper reaches of their watersheds, there appeared to be little use of the upper reaches of the Cedar River by bull trout. Electro-fishing surveys were focused in these upper reaches so as to more fully understand the ecology of bull trout in the less densely utilized reaches of the stream network.
