Road Decommissioning

See slideshow of road decommissioning program.

Decommissioning at least 38% of the original road network will have substantial ecological benefits, as these roads will no longer contribute to sedimentation of streams and wetlands or contribute to mass wasting events.

Roads are deconstructed in a manner that improves hillside drainage patterns and stability and minimizes sediment delivery to streams and wetland. At stream crossings, culverts and fill material are removed and other restoration efforts are undertaken to restore natural stream function, benefit fish survival, increase spawning habitat, and protect the drinking water supply.
