About The P-Patch
High Above Fremont
(submitted by Beckey, Maria, and Anne - Hazel Heights Volunteer Site Leaders)
Our community garden, on the west side of the Fremont neighborhood, is on a hillside overlooking the Ship Canal and Olympic Mountains. Features include terraced planting beds, an 8,000 gallon rainwater cistern, tool shed, beehive, native flora and fauna refuge, grapevines, herb beds, berry patch, and fig and apple trees.
Hazel Heights benefits from our active community of gardeners, volunteers, neighbors, and supporters. We host a Neighborhood Night Out street party on the first Tuesday of every August. We also gather as a community on the first Saturday in March and the last Sunday in October for potluck feasts, followed by work parties where we all pitch in on the bigger tasks to care for our site. Ongoing projects include weekly harvests for our local food bank (monthly during winter) from our Giving Garden, along with donations from individual plots and gardens of neighbors.
Please visit our website and blog to learn more about our garden. There you'll find the story of our history and how we grew our garden from dream to reality. Enjoy!
