Civil Externships
The Civil Division of the City Attorney's Office offers a number of student externship opportunities throughout the year for law school students.
The Civil Division provides legal counsel and representation to the City's elected and appointed officials, and departments, and consists of seven specialized areas of practice. To learn more about the seven separate areas of practice, please visit the Civil Division page.

Our Complex and Constitutional Litigation, Contracts-Utilities, Employment, Land Use, and Torts sections recruit student externs for terms throughout the year on an ongoing basis. What are the requirements for a student externship in the Civil Division?
- Completion of at least one year of law school
- Availability during normal business hours to volunteer in our downtown Seattle office
- Commitment to at least 14-20 hours per week, and one full school quarter or semester
- Strong writing and legal research skills
- Excellent computer skills
