About Us
Welcome to the Seattle Department of Education and Early Learning!
Mission: Our mission is to transform the lives of Seattle's children, youth, and families through strategic investments in education.
Vision: We envision a city where all children, youth, and families have equitable access and consistent opportunities to high-quality educational services, support, and outcomes.
Effective January 1, 2015, the Office for Education and the early learning programs from the Human Services Department have joined to become the new Department of Education and Early Learning (DEEL).
The new structure will enable the city to better coordinate existing work and resources on behalf of students of all ages, improve collaboration with Seattle Public Schools, colleges and child care providers, and increase performance measurement of the city's work to support positive educational outcomes.
