Child Care Program Manager

DEEL is looking for a Child Care Program Manager who will manage the ongoing program implementation of the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) and the department’s other childcare investments and initiatives, as well as directly supervise and evaluate the performance of four Early Education Specialists and one Senior Early Education Specialist.

Here’s more about what you’ll be doing:

Providing support and leading the team:

  • Setting goals for the work unit
  • Reviewing and updating program policies and procedures
  • Developing systems, processes, and work flows to achieve maximum productivity and ensure efficiency
  • Resolving customer requests, such as exceptions to policy and program complaints
  • Ensuring the Operations Unit is providing high quality customer service
  • Creating standard procedures for data management within the Child Information and Provider database and acting as the subject matter expert for the team
  • Serving as the lead for the Emergency Child Care Initiative, should it be needed by the City
  • Acting as a subject matter expert for the division on child care business operations and licensing regulations 

Overseeing child care programs:

  • Developing and implementing quality assurance processes and protocols
  • Assisting with the evaluation of child care programs
  • Developing and monitoring child care investment contracts with community based partners
  • Making recommendations on continuous improvement plans to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of the City’s investment in early learning
  • Working jointly with City managers and staff, funders, community-based agencies, public health and professional development partners, and stakeholders to coordinate and participate in continuous analysis of the program outcomes, program quality, and child outcomes
  • Facilitating funding processes for community grants and managing contracts for childcare investments
  • Acting as the primary liaison with Seattle Public Schools (SPS) community partnerships to monitor the success and opportunities for improvement in childcare settings within schools, including supporting childcare provider partnerships with SPS

Upward Bound Program Tutor - Temporary

We are looking for two Tutors to support the Upward Bound Program in Seattle through the end of the academic school year. In this role, you will be responsible for mentoring, tutoring, and providing instructional aid to support 9th – 12th grade students enrolled in the program at Rainier Beach and Garfield High School. You will work with the Academic Youth Counselor, mentoring students facing educational barriers to progress through the academic pathway so they may succeed in high school and beyond. This position will provide you with the opportunity to build leadership skills and gain experience in working with diverse youth from underserved communities. 

Job Responsibilities

Here's what you’ll be doing to support the Upward Bound program:

  • Providing in-person one-on-one and small group tutoring to 9th-12th grade students in Math, Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), English, Spanish, or other foreign languages
  • Supporting leadership development, college and career readiness, goal setting, career exploration, and life skills by developing and conducting workshops (both remotely and in-person)
  • Maintaining accurate records of tutoring and workshop activities by students and volunteers

You will be most successful in this role with a combination of the following:

Experience:

  • As a successful program participant in Upward Bound or a similar program so that you can support students in developing the skills and knowledge for success in achieving personal, postsecondary, and career goals
  • Tutoring one-on-one and/or in small group settings and mentoring in leadership development settings
  • Working with students from diverse cultural, ethnic, and economic backgrounds (either paid or as a volunteer)
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following skill areas (with a priority on both Math and Science): Math (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Calculus), English (reading and writing), Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), or foreign language
  • Developing workshops that will support students in gaining academic and life skills to succeed in high school, transition to postsecondary, graduate from college, and transition into a career
