My Car Got Booted

Vehicles with four or more unpaid parking tickets in collections are placed on the scofflaw list and are eligible to be immobilized using a wheel-locking device or "boot" if they are parked legally or illegally on the streets of Seattle.

Seattle Police Department Parking Enforcement Officers patrol city streets 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and utilize license plate recognition technology. If you are on the scofflaw list, officers may immobilize your vehicle with a boot and place a notice on your windshield.

If your vehicle is booted, you will have 48 hours, excluding weekends, to pay your outstanding tickets and the boot fee or make payment arrangements, before your vehicle is towed and impounded. After 15 days in impound, your vehicle may be auctioned.

To Remove The Boot

If your vehicle has been booted, call 1 (877) 590-3757 for boot removal and fine payment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Payment Options

You have three payment options:

  1. Call 1 (877) 590-3757 and pay over the phone.
  2. Pay in person at the Court.
  3. Set up a time payment plan with a minimum of 10% down or $200, whichever is the greater amount. Call 1-800-456-8838 or visit a collection agency window at the courthouse.

Boot Return

Once you have paid the outstanding tickets or established a payment plan, you will be provided a code to release the boot. You will need to return the boot to one of the below locations within two calendar days of its release. If you do not return it on time, a $25 per day fine will be assessed. If you damage or lose the boot, you will be charged $500 to replace it.
