Virtual Hearings

Seattle Municipal Court offers video hearings using WebEx video/telephone conferencing. All criminal hearings are available online on WebEx. If you do not have technology to appear by video or by phone for your hearing, please contact your attorney as soon as possible.

Please read the SMC Remote Court Hearing Protocols before joining a WebEx video hearing.

Logistics

Remote hearings should be treated as an in-person hearing. The judge may suspend or continue a hearing if technology is not performing adequately.

  • Log in to the hearing early so that you have time to troubleshoot any technology issues
  • To appear by video, you will need a device with an internet connection, video camera and microphone (or a headset with microphone)
  • Appear by video and have your camera turned on when you are speaking, unless technology is not available
  • Conduct yourself with the decorum and respect owed to each other as you would for an in-person hearing
  • Keep yourself on mute unless you are speaking
  • If you get dropped from the session, please join again. If you are having connection problems, you might want to try joining by telephone
  • Be patient with technology limitations or difficulties
  • Any video recording, audio recording, photographing, screenshots or reproduction of the livestream is prohibited, unless you secure permission from the judge

Electronic Forms

Seattle Municipal court now uses Adobe sign for attorney documents for remote hearings.

Only people that have a Seattle.gov email address can access the library of SMC documents in Adobe. Defense documents should be requested prior to the hearing by emailing SMC_Adobe_Bailiffs@Seattle.gov. Please include in your request the defendant name, case number, courtroom, day of hearing and name of the City Attorney assigned to the case. If you do not know the name of the City Attorney, please state that in your request. On the day of the hearing, Defense documents may be requested using the chat feature in WebEx.

All Adobe documents are placed by the initiator into a workflow so that upon filling and/or signing they immediately go to the next party in the workflow. The case will not be called until the document has gone through the workflow and is ready for the judge's signature.

Below is a list of documents by who initiates. If you require a document from the Defense list, follow the above instructions. Once you receive the requested document, follow these Defense Attorney Adobe Document Processing instructions. If you require a document that the City Attorney initiates, contact the City Attorney's Office. Never email a courtroom group directly requesting a document be initiated.

The following forms are available for use in Adobe:
