What Is It?
The City’s environmental codes protect sensitive areas in Seattle, including our shorelines, wetlands and streams, cultural and historic resources, and geologic hazards. These areas require additional rules due to their environmental importance. The City’s environmental codes regulate the design and siting of structures and how land is disturbed during development. These regulations protect ecological functions, environmental resources, and public health and safety, while allowing for reasonable development.
