SUMMARY

The Seattle Department of Education and Early Learning will be awarding Families and Education Levy (Levy) funds for elementary school and middle school summer learning opportunities. Levy support for summer learning is intended to provide struggling students with additional learning time to catch up with their peers, in pursuit of the goal of improving academic outcomes and reducing the achievement gap. Levy-funded summer programs deliver a minimum of 120 hours of academic and enrichment content each summer.

  • Elementary (K-5): Up to $94,546 in new funding may be awarded to programs serving rising kindergarten through 5th grade students in Seattle Public Schools during summer 2017.
  • Middle School (6-8): Up to $477,531 in new funding may be awarded to programs serving rising 6th through 8th grade students in Seattle Public Schools during summer 2017.
  • Once awarded, schools and organizations will receive annual funding for the duration of the Levy (through Summer 2019), assuming student outcome targets and contract obligations are met.
Schools and organizations committed to improving students' academic outcomes are encouraged to complete the elementary school and/or middle school summer learning RFI applications. Funds will be awarded on a competitive basis outlined within the RFI documents.
