School Based Investments
Investment Summary
K-12 School-Based Investments provide intensive, supplemental support for select schools within Seattle Public Schools that have high concentrations of historically underserved populations and students not yet meeting grade-level learning standards. Investments are focused on expanded learning, academic support, social-emotional skill development, college readiness programming, and career exploration experiences.

Partner schools represent 28% of total SPS K-12 enrollment, with 82% students of color (compared to 54% students of color in SPS overall)

Four-year graduation rates for levy-funded schools show a seven-point decrease in race-based opportunity gaps between 2018-2020 (includes schools funded under previous Families and Education Levy)

Investment Details
School Based Investment (SBI) partner schools serve as hubs for levy-funded interventions coordinated and delivered by school staff and community partners. Schools receiving Levy funds implement these interventions in two key focus areas:
- Expanded Learning and Academic Support
- College and Career Readiness
Levy-funded supports and activities include in-class support for students, expanding access and supports for dual credit courses for high school students, and case management for students who face barriers to learning at home or school.
DEEL will invest an average of $16.4 million annually, with $115 million FEPP Levy funds allocated over 7 years through 2026. Award sizes vary by school.

SBI funding is contingent upon services provided and students served. Schools meeting annual performance targets are eligible to receive funding through school year 2025-2026.
DEEL's primary partner in School Based Investments is Seattle Public Schools. Levy-funded schools are also encouraged to partner with various Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) in supporting students and providing programming such as leadership development, summer learning opportunities, mentoring, and other academic supports.

During COVID, we had online make-up days where students could meet with their teachers and bring their grades up, and we held virtual events like a college fair and Historically Black College and University (HBCU) and alumni panels to support students' success.
