Safe Routes to School: Hamilton Middle School

November 15, 2019

What's happening now?

As soon as November 18th, we will begin making improvements to the intersection of N 41st St and Stone Way N. We will install new curb bulbs and curb ramps in the existing "no parking" areas at this intersection. Work will begin on the east side of the intersection and move to the west side. We will need to close 41st for one block to the east and west of Stone Way. We will only close one side at a time and local access will be allowed on the closed streets. Please follow the No Parking and detour signs.

What to expect during construction:

  • Typical work hours between 7AM and 7PM, Monday through Friday with possible night work
  • Closure of N 41st St, one block east and west of Stone Way
  • Local access only on closed streets
  • Traffic lane modifications
  • Typical construction noise, dust, vibrations
  • Temporary parking restrictions
  • Temporary pedestrian and bike detours around the work zone and staging area
  • Access to businesses and homes will be maintained at all times
  • Work is expected to last 4-6 weeks

Project Overview

This Safe Routes to School project serves students from Hamilton Middle School, as well as neighbors and businesses. SDOT already added crosswalk flashing lights and new signage to the crosswalk which will remain. The curb bulbs will further improve the visibility of pedestrians crossing at this intersection.

Benefits

  • Safer and more comfortable access for all pedestrians, residents, and businesses in the area
  • Improved walking and biking connections to schools and neighborhood destinations
