What's Happening Now?

Thank you to all who participated in the community prioritization process for this Neighborhood Street Fund project. We completed new curb ramps at 7th Ave and Union St in fall of 2021. By the end of 2023 we plan to install new decorative sidewalk inlays at the intersection of Seneca St and Hubbell Pl and a new pavement mural at the intersection of 9th Ave and University St.

Project Overview

Seattle’s Denny Way connects Capitol Hill and Interstate 5 to South Lake Union, Downtown and Uptown Seattle as a primary arterial in accessing many of the city’s core neighborhoods to the west, south and north. It is also a major freight route and a part of the City of Seattle’s frequent transit network. In 2024, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will repave roughly 12 blocks to restore the pavement condition in this critical piece of Downtown Seattle’s arterial network.

The Denny Way Repaving Project includes:

This project will improve access points to Freeway Park located over I-5 between downtown and First Hill. The improvements will make the park more accessible and inviting to all users, including:

New curb ramps at the intersection of 7th Ave and Union St
New curb ramps and decorative sidewalk inlays at the intersection of Seneca St and Hubbell Pl
New pavement mural at the intersection of 9th Ave and University St

Schedule

The NSF program runs on 3-year cycles to select, design, and build projects. The application phase for the 2016-2018 cycle opened in 2015 and projects will be constructed in 2018.

Project Background

This is one of 12 Neighborhood Street Fund projects requested by neighbors and selected by the Levy to Move Seattle Oversight Committee as part of the 2016-2018 program cycle. Neighborhood Street Fund is a city program, running on 3-year cycles, that enables neighbors to propose and help prioritize transportation-related projects that are then built by the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT).
