Rainier Neighborhood Greenway
Art Interruptions makes its way to the Rainier Valley East-West Neighborhood Greenway with whimsical temporary instillations. Now through January 2, 2017 seven temporary instillations on view along the greenway will inspire and enliven the route with an element of the unexpected. This is joint project between the Office of Arts & Culture and SDOT artists for this instillation were selected through a public process that included community involvement. Kick off Feet First's WALKTOBER with a Walk for Fun event
Saturday, October 1, 2016, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
Neighborhood greenways are residential streets that are safer and more family-friendly for people walking and biking. They improve the experience for people of all ages and abilities by reducing car speeds; minimizing cut-through traffic; and enhancing crossings of busy streets.
On streets with low car volumes and speeds a greenway can:
- Improve safety
- Help people cross busy streets
- Discourage cut-through traffic
- Protect the residential character of our neighborhoods
- Keep speeds low
- Get people where they want to go like parks, schools, shops and restaurants
Project Funding
This project is locally funded by the nine-year voter approved Bridging the Gap Levy.
