Adoption Fees and Applications

Adoption surveys

If you wish to complete a digital survey using a the fillable PDF form, you will need to download and save the document before filling it out. You may also print the survey and complete by hand; printed copies are available at the Seattle Animal Shelter. If you are unable to fill out a written survey, staff will assist you at the shelter by conducting a verbal interview that mirrors the written survey. Translation services are also available upon request.

*If you reside in Seattle or King County, you must purchase a two year pet license at the time of adoption.
High-interest animals may have a higher adoption fee. Contact animal care staff for details.

The adoption fee includes:

  • Spay/neuter surgery for dogs, cats and rabbits.
  • Recommended vaccinations.
  • Microchip and registration.
  • Initial worming.

If adopting a cat or small animal, a carrier is available for purchase at the Seattle Animal Shelter for an additional $6. You are welcome to bring your own carrier at the time of adoption. 

Gold/FLASH card discount

A 50 percent discount on adoption fees for all animals and altered license fees is available for seniors (over 60 years) and people with disabilities who have a Gold or FLASH card.
