Adoption Fees

The adoption fee includes:

  • Spay/neuter surgery for dogs, cats and rabbits.
  • Recommended vaccinations.
  • Microchip and registration.
  • Initial worming.
  • FeLV (Feline leukemia virus) testing (cats only).


Adult cat
Kitten under 6 months $125
Two kittens $200


Adult dog
Puppy under 6 months $375

Other Animals

Rabbits $40
(guinea pigs, hamsters, birds, snakes, etc.)

*If you reside in Seattle or King County, you must purchase a pet license at the time of adoption.
High-interest animals may have a higher adoption fee. Contact animal care staff for details.


Senior citizen/disabled discount

For senior citizens (over 60 years) and disabled persons who have a Gold Card for Healthy Aging or FLASH card, the Seattle Animal Shelter offers:

  • 50 percent off Seattle pet licenses.
  • 50 percent off the adoption price of a dog or cat 2 years of age or older.
  • Free adoption for any dog or cat 6 years of age or older. Pet license fees still apply, at the reduced rate.
  • Supplemental pet food, toys, leashes and collars, on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Financial assistance to help with the spay/neuter of a cat or dog.
