You are shaping Seattle’s Climate Action Plan. Since 2024, we’ve gathered community partners and experts, hosted activities, asked for your input, and so much more. Together, you and hundreds of partners are collectively planning the actions Seattle needs to take in the years ahead to reduce pollution, adapt to our changing climate, and thrive.

What We’re Hearing From Community

Climate change affects every community differently, and the people most impacted know best what solutions their communities need to feel safe and to thrive. We’re listening and learning from community members to inform Seattle’s actions. Some of the themes we have heard include:

	Adaptation is just as important as reducing emissions Preparing for the climate change impacts people are feeling now must be given equal priority.
	Embrace connected climate solutions Actions should linke health, emissions, ecosystems, and infrastructure together.
	Engage, support, and collaborate with frontline communities Communities are already doing essential resilience work. People who are disproportionately affected by pollution, heat, and flooding should have real influence and resources to act.
	Provide accessible solutions to make buildings climate-ready Communities that use buildings like childcare facilities, schools, and older adult homes need affordable, accessible, and practical solutions that make buildings safer and more comfortable.
	Empower communities through learning and education Trusted community organizations, cultural hubs, and existing networks can meet community members where they are with climate education and organizing. This inspires connection, hope, and sustained action.
	Make measurable public health improvements Communities overburdened by climate-related health impacts want to breathe easy, stay cool, drink clean water, and safely stay at home even when extreme weather hits. This progress will increase community wellbeing, too.
	Define success and share progress Community members want specific ways to measure climate progress, when they can expect progress updates, and how success will be determined.

What Has Happened so Far

We have worked closely with many community and government partners to create spaces for community members to shape the Climate Action Plan.

Regional Partners Forum

We convened 100+ partners from academia, business, health, philanthropy, regional and Tribal governments, and community organizations at PNW Climate Week in July 2026 to work together on climate action priorities. Through interactive workshops, small groups discussed climate topics to generate innovative ideas.

Community Survey

In summer 2026, we collected survey responses from over 1,200 Seattle residents who shared their ideas for the Climate Action Plan. We also worked with community liaisons to collect insights from Chinese, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog, and Vietnamese communities. Stay tuned for survey themes and results this fall.

Partner Roundtables

We convened a range of community partner organizations, including environmental policy, grassroots organizations, and advocacy groups, in small-group roundtable sessions. Roundtables provided counsel on plan development and on opportunities for organizational and City partnership for future climate actions.

Community Assemblies

We partnered with the Green New Deal Oversight Board, People’s Economy Lab, MLK Labor, and the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle, the Washington Bus, and Rising Tides to host community assemblies. These assemblies brought together frontline communities, workers, and advocates to share their experiences, and co-develop recommendations to inform City climate policy.
