Council President Hollingsworth: Welcome!

council president Hollingsworth speaking at the podium in City Hall Chambers

On Jan. 6, 2026, I was honored to be voted in as Council President for the City of Seattle. First, I want to thank my colleagues for your vote of confidence. It’s been an honor to work together for the residents of Seattle.

The title of Council President comes with a responsibility to help set the tone, keep us moving forward, and serve as a quarterback of our team.  My vote weighs exactly the same as my colleagues. My role is not to override this Council, but to facilitate its important work. I’m here to support it and to help us function at our collective best.

This is my promise to Seattle: Everyone who walks through those chamber doors will be treated with respect and kindness no matter how they show up in their spirit, their attitude, or their words. We will run a transparent and open process and as a governing body our shared responsibility of doing city basics better.

✔ measurable outcomes;

✔ accessibility to government;

✔ hyperlocal focus to our constituents;

✔ and transparency.

This Council is not one voice. It's many voices, many perspectives, and many ideas. I believe the respect that we're going to have for one another will remain the foundation of our success.

I strongly encourage you all to stay engaged and contact us with questions, concerns, and feedback. Let's have a great 2026!
