Tree Walks

Explore Seattle's Trees

A note about our Seattle Tree Walks app: After serving us for many years, the Tree Walk application software (both Android and Apple) is no longer being supported by its parent company. Trees for Seattle is currently working on a solution so that we can continue to offer immersive, digital versions of these great walks. All Tree Walks are still available as a PDF below.

What is a Tree Walk?

Heritage Trees

Heritage trees may be on either City or private property. Heritage trees are recognized by virtue of its age, its association an historic structure or district, or connection to a noted person or historic event. Most heritage trees do not grow on public property, however there are some that are along curb strips and parks that are viewable by the public and are featured on some Tree Walks, including photos and detailed descriptions.
The Heritage Tree Program was started by PlantAmnesty in 1996 to celebrate Seattle’s special trees. In 2017, the program was handed over to The City of Seattle Department of Transportation, but PlantAmnesty still plays a role in the program by evaluating Heritage Tree nominees and selecting those that meet the definition of truly exceptional trees.
