International Affairs

Seattle's International Affairs seeks to strengthen the prosperity and international reputation of Seattle through increased trade, foreign investment, and the promotion of Seattle as a global leader in environmental action and civil rights.

OIR's International Affairs Director is responsible for developing the overall strategic direction of Seattle's foreign policy. The position uses available resources and relationships within the City government, the U.S. State Department, the Consular Corps, and other international partners to create economic, cultural, and academic opportunities for Seattle businesses and residents through legislative activity, local outreach, and international travel. OIR also coordinates visits from international delegations and supports the Mayor, City Council, and other City official's international trips.

 The International Affairs Director oversees Seattle's Sister City relationships and manages the City of Seattle International Affairs Advisory Board. The Seattle International Affairs Advisory Board works to raise the prominence of Seattle's international programs, ensure alignment with Seattle's development goals, and increase the visibility of international activities. Members represent private-sector, nongovernmental, academic, and media organizations in Seattle.
