Lake City Floodplain Park Restoration

Review Status

On April 17th, 2025 we reviewed the schematic phase (60% design) for the Lake City Floodplain Park project. At this meeting, the Commission voted 9-0 to approve the current design phase, with a condition on presenting the project to a subcommittee prior to the next full Commission review. The subcommittee review will focus on how design solutions are applied to a variety of issues related to safe and secure access, site design details, and use and application of materials

Project Description

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) and Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) have developed a proposal to revive the health of a segment of Thornton Creek at and near the Lake City Flood Plain Park, while supporting community programming within the park. Through a partnership between Mid Sound Fisheries, SPU and SPR, the team has proposed upgrades to the segment of Thornton Creek to advance health of the creek and enhance the public open spaces at Lake City Floodplain Park.
