Green Lake Pool
Review Status
On October 16, 2025 the Commission held its initial review of a proposal to create a new aquatic center in Green Lake Park. At this meeting, we voted to approve the proposal and provided several recommendations. The project will be reviewed again in 2026.
Project Description
The Green Lake Aquatic Center is a new 25,000-28,000 square foot standalone facility that will replace programming currently in the aging Evans Pool building. The Evans Pool building (roof structure only) received Seattle Landmark designation in 2020, requiring design updates and limiting alterations to the existing structure, which will remain on site for future adaptive reuse. The site is located on the east side of Green Lake Park along the 2.8-mile loop trail at East Green Lake Drive North and Latona Avenue Northeast. Site constraints include setbacks, code requirements, tree protection zones, the landmarked Evans Pool building, and existing circular drive access. The design positions the new aquatic center as part of a campus relating to existing buildings, with connections between the park loop trail, parking, and the historic Evans Pool, along with playground improvements and site enhancements.
