Is the Unit Registered?

Since 2014, the City requires that every rental unit in Seattle be registered under the Rental Registration Inspection Ordinance (RRIO). There are some exceptions, such as Seattle Housing Authority housing, owner-occupied rentals, and accessory dwelling units (often referred to as "in-law apartments". Registrations must be renewed every two years.

RRIO requires that registered units meet minimum housing standards. All units are inspected over a period of time to ensure they meet those standards. In order to pass the inspection, the rental units must meet the requirements of the RRIO checklist.

You can check to see if your unit is registered on the Seattle Services Portal.
