7.23.2008
Officer Sperry was dispatched to investigate a disturbance call. When Officer Sperry arrived, he spoke with the homeowner who advised that an unknown male came up to the front door and demanded money. The victim stated the male then went around the side of her residence and has not been seen since. An area check of the residence was done and a male was found hiding in the basement under a bookcase. The suspect gave his name, which was checked for warrants. The check came back with two felony warrants and four misdemeanor warrants. The suspect was transported to SW Precinct and booked into KCJ for the warrants.
6.16.2008 Officers Tuttle and Batiot were dispatched to a car prowl in progress call. Once on scene, officers were informed that two vehicles had been prowled and several suspects were seen inside the vehicles. Containment was set up and K-9 was dispatched to the scene. The witness stated he saw suspects inside his neighbor’s vehicle and then saw suspects inside his own vehicle. Before the K-9 track began, officers searching the area stopped three suspicious suspects near the intersection of 35th SW and SW 100th and detained. K-9 tracked for the starting point of the incident and performed a positive track to the detainee’s location. The three suspects were identified and arrested. At the precinct, the suspects confessed to committing 10 separate car prowl thefts, and almost all property was recovered and will be returned to the owners. All the suspects were juveniles. Precinct personnel involved included Officers Tuttle, Batiot, Gochnour, Nichols, Renner, Woo, Moore, Ferreira, Peloquin and Sergeant Strand.
5.13.2008 Officers Kiehn and Thompson responded to a report of a stolen car. When they arrived, the car was gone but Officer Kiehn recognized the house next door as a home that had been burglarized two months earlier. Officers were also aware of a rash of residential burglaries, so they checked the home and discovered it had been burglarized. This information was quickly broadcast and officers conducted an area search for the stolen car that was initially reported. Later, Officer Hylton spotted the reported stole car while en-route to another call. Officer Hylton made a high-risk felony stop (because of a weapon stolen in the previous burglary) and took three juveniles into custody. At the precinct, Officer Longley obtained signed statements of confession from two suspects and was able to get them to admit committing other burglaries in the area as well as two additional auto thefts. The officers’ response, their coordinated efforts as a team, and their initiative helped me to build a case against the three suspects. Detective Garcia was able to charge all three suspects each with two residential burglaries and three auto thefts. Detective Garcia believes the contributions of Sgt. Baily, Officers Kiehn, Thompson, Hylton, Longley, Freutel and Rees allowed for a smooth filing process. Detective Garcia would like to commend these officers’ efforts.
