Captain Thomas Mahaffey

More + -

Captain Mahaffey joined the Seattle Police Department in September of 1992 and spent the first 10 years of his career as a patrol, mountain bike, and anti-crime team officer in the East Precinct.  As a sergeant, he served in the Southwest Precinct, Narcotics, and Criminal Intelligence Sections until his promotion to lieutenant in 2014.   He has served in the West Precinct as a watch commander, the commander of the downtown bike squads and as operations lieutenant.

Captain Mahaffey is a graduate of the University of Washington.  He has also completed the Senior Management Institute for Police, DEA Leadership Academy, and Washington State Law Enforcement Middle Management Course.  In his off time, he was a youth soccer coach for many years and is an avid skier and golfer.

Captain Mahaffey was promoted to Captain in September 2017 and is thrilled to remain at the West Precinct. He believes the best way to proactively address precinct issues is by using insights from department data to problem-solve directly with the community.  Captain Mahaffey looks forward to working with each unique neighborhood and business district.
