About the Captain Captain David Emerick started with the Seattle Police Department in 1982 as a reserve officer, and was hired as a police officer in August 1985. During his tenure with the department, Emerick has worked as a patrol officer in the North and West Precincts, in the Anti-Crime Team for North Precinct, a patrol sergeant in the South Precinct, and a patrol lieutenant in the West Precinct. In his command ranks of sergeant and lieutenant, Emerick has worked in the Narcotics, Gang and Homicide/Assault/CSI Units. He also was the commander of the Harbor Patrol Unit from 2003-2006, where he led the building of two new high-tech police boats and became the catalyst for making Harbor Patrol one of the best equipped and efficient marine law enforcement unit in the country. As the captain of the Violent Crimes Section, Emerick commanded the Homicide, Gang, Warrants, CSI, Bias Crime, Polygraph, and Victims Advocate Units. Captain Emerick is a big supporter of community partnerships, and believes that it takes a combined effort of police and community to solve, prevent and reduce crime and the fear of crime in the community. He is a native of Seattle and attended Seattle Public Schools. Emerick completed a Leadership and Command Program from the University of Washington, and is currently working toward his academic degree at Bellevue College.
