The opening celebration was held April 17, 2008 with artist Jesus Moroles in attendance. The celebration featured a candlelight walk which ended at the South Park Community Center where food and refreshments were served.
PROJECT DESCRIPTIONThe community, led by Sea Mar, has collaborated with sculptor Jesus Moroles and the firm of Jones and Jones to redevelop an underused portion of open space into a spirited park. Musical stone sculptures, seating walls, a trellis, bus shelter, and plantings integrate art into the landscape of South Park.In September 2005, the Seattle City Council unanimously approved $100,000 for the Cesar Chavez Park project. Funding has also been received through a Seattle Department of Neighborhoods Matching Fund Grant, a Washington State Community, Trade, and Economic Development grant, and numerous private foundations and donatons.
