9000 blk 4th Ave NW, 0940 hrs, – Officers and Seattle Fire responded to a call at this address where an adult male had reportedly doused himself and his children with gasoline and threatened to light them and the house on fire. This incident eventually involved SWAT, Hostage Negotiators, and large contingent of officers and supervisors from the North Precinct. At 1237 hours, the suspect and the 2 children came out of the house voluntarily and the incident was resolved peaceably. The man from the house was taken into custody and booked into jail for the violation of a protection order. The subject’s wife, who had originally called police, was arrested and booked for Investigation of Assault after witnesses indicated that she had thrown gasoline on him after an altercation.

Officers Steve Kim, Salvatore Ditusa, John Evenson, Gil Bernal, and Rick Spretcher received commendations for arresting a total of 6 burglars in separate incidents. The 6 burglary suspects had been very active in Ballard and had generated numerous burglary reports. The officers obtained confessions from all of the suspects, recovered hundreds of dollars worth of stolen property, and recovered various stolen credit cards and passports.
