PROJECT STATUS

Thank you Seattle. The Pro Parks Levy project at Lake City Mini Park is complete!

This is an award winning project!

The project was honored with a 2007 Washington Aggregates and Concrete Association Architectural Concrete Award. The new park features colored concrete paving with bands of previous concrete that interconnect throughout the property.
> more about the award

Benches will be added as money becomes available; planning, design, and construction comprised most of the project's Levy funding.

The contractor was Gary Merlino Construction, and the designer was JGM Landscape Architects.
LOCATION
12363 Lake City Way NE
BUDGET
The Pro Parks Levy provides approximately $340,000 project costs for planning, design and construction.
SCHEDULE
Planning: Spring-Early Fall 2003
Design: Fall 2003
Construction: Dec 2004 thru March 2005
Completion: In April 2005

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Construction resulted in the demolition of all existing structures except for a portion of the planter wall running along the adjacent property to the south and the historic bank entrance. New festive paving was installed with a cluster of five trees and landscaping.

COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION

The Pro Parks Levy states, "Make improvements to park including addressing the concrete wall and other park features." Parks met with the North Neighborhoods Stewardship Group, Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce and Rotary to solicit ideas about improving the park. Ideas included: reducing or removing the wall along NE 123rd St, replacing the landscaping with plants that allow more visibility into the site; adding ground level landscaping and trees for shade; and retaining the entry arch.
