Description:
This is an excellent, large shade tree with an attractive silver appearance on the underside of the leaves. The fuzzy silver underside of the dark green leaves also resists aphids that are known to plague other lindens. The fragrant flowers in late spring are a mecca for pollinators! The ‘Sterling’ cultivar has a uniform growth habit and is smaller than other lindens.

Where to Plant: 
Great specimen shade tree for your yard or in a wide planting strip with no overhead power lines. 

Leaves:
Dark green leaves have a fuzzy, silver underside. Yellow fall color.  

Flowers:
Fragrant creamy white flowers hang in clusters in late spring/early summer. Very attractive to pollinators! 

Fruit:
A small nutlet that ripens in late summer. 

Preferred Site Conditions:
Full sun. Prefers moist but well drained soil. 

Potential Problems:
Resists aphids that can infest other lindens.

  • 3 ½ feet back from the face of the curb
  • 5 feet from underground utility lines
  • 10 feet from power poles
  • 7 ½ feet from driveways (10 feet recommended)
  • 20 feet from street lights and other existing trees
  • 30 feet from street intersections
