Description:
This is a low maintenance shade tree with a rounded habit. The narrow, coarsely toothed leaves which differ from most oaks, look more like chestnut leaves. The acorn is sweet and edible.

Where to Plant:
Great specimen shade tree for your yard or in a wide planting strip without overhead power lines.

Leaves:
Narrow, coarsely toothed, shiny green leaves. They look more like chestnut leaves. Yellow-orange fall color.

Fruit:
Sweet and edible acorn.

Preferred Site Conditions:
Plant in full sun. Prefers well drained soils, but adaptable to wide range of soils.

Potential Problems:
Can be susceptible to oak wilt.

  • 15 feet from house or building
  • 3 ½ feet back from the face of the curb
  • 5 feet from underground utility lines
  • 10 feet from power poles
  • 7 ½ feet from driveways (10 feet recommended)
  • 20 feet from street lights and other existing trees
  • 30 feet from street intersections
