CSA Train the Trainor Materials:
There are three different ways you can get compensated for work you do in the community.
Request to do work from CSA email update
All CSAs receive regular email updates from the Office of Emergency Management that include work opportunities you can sign-up for by replaying to CSA Manager. If the workshop/event listed has a language preference listed, the CSA who speaks that language will get first priority to work the event. If no CSAs who speak that language sign-up to do the work, then it is first come first serve. The CSA Manager will email you if you are confirmed to work the training/event, and send you a calendar appointment. CSAs will not receive a reminder email about the event, so be sure to write it on your calendar!
Request approval to do work on your own
All CSAs were hired to do this work because of their communication, leadership, and language skills, but also because of their passion for emergency preparedness and the relationships they have with community leaders and ethnic organizations. You are encouraged to step out of your comfort zone and conduct your own outreach in the community. This could include setting up a workshop for a community group you already have a relationship with, connecting with leaders of an ethnic organization to plan future workshops, or conducting a project you think would better serve the needs of Seattle's non-English speaking and vulnerable communities. Before doing the work, you must email or text the CSA manager to request approval.
Get more involved with OEM projects
CSAs who have shown committment and have done outstanding work in their community may be hand-selected by OEM staff to do work on other projects, such as Community Emergency Hub outreach. If there is an OEM project that you have not been selected for, but are very interested in getting more involved, email the CSA Manager to see how they can include you in the project. Other OEM projects may include assisting with translations, video projects, and focus groups.
You must fill out the online payment request form to get compensated for the work you have done - this is the only way to get paid. Fill out a separate online form for each project/workshop/training you have completed or attended. Fill out the form within 30 days after you have completed the work.
CSAs are paid $25.00 - $30.00 per hour for workshops/events/outreach, and $20.00 for attending CSA job trainings. CSAs who have taken the Certified CPR class are paid $30.00 for conducting CPR workshops. CSAs should include 30 minutes of travel time and the time it took to set-up and take-down for the workshop/event when they submit the request for payment.
The CSA Manager processes payment requests weekly. Once the form is received, the CSA Manager submits an invoice to the City of Seattle Fiscal Office on their behalf. Once fiscal receives the invoice, it could take up to 60 days to receive a check in the mail. If you have not received payment within 60 days of submitting the online form, email the CSA Manager so they can look into the issue.
Register for CSA Job Training
OEM offers a series of train-the-trainer sessions throughout the year for CSAs to attend. CSAs who attend these job trainings will be certified to teach the training topic on their own at future workshops/events. It is important that you try to attend as many CSA Job Trainings as you can. OEM is always updating their outreach materials and messaging, so even if you have attended a CSA job training in the past, it is good to attend the training again.
To request materials and equipment for a presentation or event, you must fill out the online form at least three days before you plan to pick-up the materials to give OEM staff enough time to prepare. Materials/equipment will be provided based on the availability. Equipment must be returned to Seattle OEM within two business days after the event takes place. Materials can be picked up at the Seattle OEM location (105 5th Ave. S. Suite 300, Seattle WA 98104) Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. or 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. If you are unable to pick-up materials at the Seattle OEM location, please note this in your request. Picking up materials at a location other than Seattle OEM should only occur on a case-by-case basis.
