The Specialized Programs section of Seattle Parks and Recreation provides a variety of engaging and exciting recreation opportunities for youth and adults with disabilities. Currently we are offering virtual recreation for our participants and families to stay connected and healthy from the comfort and safety of home, such as: daily program videos, weekly call in and/or online programs, quarterly special events that are either drive thru or virtual, and a quarterly "Rec 2 Go" kit.

  • Tuesdays: "Hannah's Kitchen"
  • Wednesdays: "Art with Sav" and "Harry Potter with Hanna"
  • Thursdays: "Rec Round Up" -  Facebook Live
  • Fridays: "Movement Break" with Allison and "Picture Book Friday" with Hanna     

Call In Programs: "Chatline" and "Rec Round Up"

Chatlines are on Tuesdays at 2:30pm and are designed to provide a space to socialize and have conversations with peers.  Rec Round Ups are on Thursdays at 2:30pm and have structured group games and activities led by staff.  These programs are currently on Skype and open to youth and adults with disabilities. Wellness Wednesdays

This is a new online program for Teens and Young Adults ages 13-30 with disabilities. Participants must have access to a device with a camera to participate. Activities will include games, crafts, projects and more all based around domains of wellness. This free program will be offered bi-monthly on Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30pm on WebEx. To register, email: PKS_Specialized_Programs@seattle.gov  

Quarterly Rec 2 Go Kits Each quarter we will be featuring a new Rec 2 Go kit with supplies to recreate at home independently or along with our Virtual Programs for that quarter. Kits cost $10. Our Fall Rec 2 Go kits have already been distributed. Information on how to order your Winter 2021 kits will be available in December.

In non-pandemic years, the Specialized Programs unit of Seattle Parks and Recreation offers year-round activities for people with disabilities. The purpose is to provide recreational opportunities for individuals who may choose to participate in activities specifically designed and conducted by trained staff to best meet their needs. We offer:

  • Special Olympics Sports of all kinds
  • Wheelchair basketball teams
  • Weekend trips
  • After school programs
  • Classes, such as: cooking, dance, pottery, and drama
  • Extensive camping program during the summer
  • Adult day programs
  • Evening socials

The programs are particularly suited to people with a range of cognitive and physical disabilities . The Specialized Programs staff will also work with individuals or family members who would prefer to integrate into other Department programs but need some type of accommodation such as an interpreter.

Seattle Adaptive Sports

Seattle Parks and Recreation Specialized Programs is proud to partner with Seattle Adaptive Sports.

Seattle Adaptive Sports' mission is to enable people with disabilities to push beyond their limits and realize their full potential, using adaptive sports as a vehicle for personal growth.
