Seattle Parks and Recreation's acquired this surplused City Light substation on August 29, 2003. An adjoining property was acquired in June 2003.
PROJECT DESCRIPTIONThe Pro Parks Levy included the purchase of this property as a Neighborhood Parks Acquisition project to provide a small park in an underserved neighborhood. The surplused Seattle City Light substation is on the corner of 6th Ave NW and NW 76th St.The Levy provided the local matching funds to obtain a grant from the King County Conservation Futures Levy. This grant and the assistance of the Cascade Land Conservancy made it possible to purchase an additional lot to the west of the substation and to expand the small park site. The Levy also provides funding for the development of the site into a neighborhood park. Both properties, the surplused substation and the adjoining property, were acquired in the summer of 2003.
