Seattle’s Police Accountability System

On June 1, 2017, legislation was passed to revamp Seattle's police accountability system. This innovative approach to law enforcement oversight created a three-pronged system comprised of the Office of Police Accountability (OPA) , the Office of Inspector General for Public Safety (OIG), and the Community Police Commission (CPC). All three entities are expected to generate public trust in the SPD by upholding a culture of accountability and adherence to policy and constitutional law.
