Community Engagement

OPA's Community Engagement Team helps OPA build relationships with community members through dialogue and information sharing. The three Community Engagement Specialists also work to increase public awareness of OPA and Seattle's police accountability system.

To understand community perceptions of OPA, the Community Engagement Team distributed an informal survey locally in early 2019. The information gathered was compiled into a Public Awareness Assessment Report, which helped the team create an Outreach and Engagement Plan. These documents were further condensed into an Assessment and Plan Summary.

Outreach Spotlight

Cleveland High School: On February 28, 2019, OPA, along with other local system partners, attended a day-long event at Cleveland High School to talk with over 200 freshman students about Seattle's police accountability system. Each system partner discussed in small groups the role they play, the services they provide and how they work together on the topic of police oversight.
