About the Program

The City of Seattle’s vision of the Seattle Race and Social Justice Initiative (RSJI) is to eliminate racial inequities in the community and achieve equity in how we serve the Seattle community.

To achieve this, the Department of Finance and Administrative Services (FAS), is focusing on how to improve services by making them more accessible to the most vulnerable. We are seeking ways to further incorporate racial equity into FAS lines of business. This requires ending individual, institutional and structural racism.

The City Surplus Program was developed using the Racial Equity Toolkit (RET) which lays out a process and a set of questions to guide the development, implementation and evaluation of policies, initiatives, programs, and budget issues to address the impacts of racial equity.

FAS’ Logistics and Emergency Management (LEM) Division, through its Warehouse operations section, seeks to educate the community on surplus items as well as instruction on the process to obtain these surplus items.
