What We Do
The Seattle Planning Commission serves as an active and collaborative thought partner on land-use related long-range plans, policies and projects for departments across the City. We advise city staff from departments such as the Office of Planning and Community Development, Seattle Department of Transportation, the Office of Housing, and the Office of Sustainability and Environment. We also provide advice directly to the Mayor’s office and City Council on plans, policies legislation, and commission-directed independent research.
The Commission helps to shape the long-term vision for Seattle’s built environment and looks for cohesion, coordination and consistency across departments in bringing that future vision to life. We use multiple lenses such as racial and social equity, sustainability, and livability to evaluate plans and bring our wide range of professional and lived experience into our recommendations.
To learn more about the Commission’s recommendations on recent city plans and initiatives, see our page for plan and policy reviews.
