Public-facing Counters Temporarily Closed Until Further Notice

Consumer Protection's public-facing counters remain temporarily closed until further notice. Once counters reopen, in-person transactions will be processed on a limited, appointment only basis from the Weights and Measures building located at 805 S. Dearborn St.

Business Licenses and Tax Payments
We encourage businesses to use the online portal, FileLocal, to get licensed, file tax returns and make tax payments while we are temporarily closed for in-person assistance.  Please see the guidelines for tax filing extensions offered as relief to small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.  If you have questions, please email and a member of our team will answer you.

Payments for Seattle City Light and Seattle Public Utilities can be made:

  • Or, by mailing or dropping a check or money order to drop boxes at the City's Customer Service Centers outside of downtown Seattle. Locations can be found at

Money orders are available free of charge at any Wells Fargo branch in Seattle city limits. Include the following information with your check or money order when depositing it at a drop box location:

  • Your name and contact information, so we can reach you if there are questions.
  • The bill or invoice you received OR
  • The account number or invoice number you are paying.
  • If you do not have an account number or invoice number, please provide the department contact, name and/or phone you are working with.
