Swimming Beaches

2020 Schedule

8/13 update: Mount Baker beach is now open with lifeguards. See below for times.
King County has closed Madrona beach due to high bacteria counts. Even when this clears, the beach is not lifeguarded by staff this summer and we strongly recommend not swimming without lifeguards present. Check ongoing status here.

We have opened a few of our swimming areas: Madison, Magnuson, West Green Lake, and Pritchard. The other swimming areas in Seattle will remain closed for the 2020 season due to the public health situation.

To keep these spaces safe for you and others please stay home when sick, wear your mask when on the beach, give others 6 ft of space, and stay chest deep in the water (to help prevent rescues which would require close contact).

With the exceptiion of summer 2020, Seattle Parks and Recreation traditionally offers safe, lifeguarded beaches at nine sites around the city. We strongly recommend swimming only where lifeguards are present.
