Seattle Parks and Recreation is happy to announce accessible improvements for Bitter Lake Community Center. Seattle Parks and Recreation is working hard to bring all our facilities into to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Improvements include:
- Update 2 ADA parking spaces and about 125' of sidewalk and ramp.
- Install a detention pipe underground adjacent to the ADA parking spaces.
- Update a section of the asphalt walkway at south of the baseball field and provide a 6'x7' asphalt pad at the drinking fountain.
- Update inside restrooms
- Update Shower 1
- Improve access to millwork/cabinets in various rooms for wheelchair access.
- Update exterior restrooms
Construction Schedule and Impacts
June - August 2016
We will work with Forma Construction to minimize impacts during construction. We do anticipate temporary closure of up to 10 parking spaces in the north lot. Thank you for your patience and cooperation during construction. For questions or concerns with project construction please contact: Redi Karameto, firstname.lastname@example.org or 206-684-7036.
Bitter Lake Community Center is situated on the edge of small lake and Bitter Lake Playfield in the northwest sector of Seattle. The neighborhood is ethnically diverse with large immigrant and senior populations.
Built in 1998, the building's modern design features lots of windows that bring in an abundance of light, and a spacious family-friendly lobby where parents wait for children finishing their afternoon program and young people gather to relax and socialize. The center has a large multipurpose room with hardwood floor and adjacent commercial-grade kitchen for programs and rentals and several other small meeting rooms. Artwork is an integral part of the design both inside and outside the building. Outdoor amenities include a play area, wading pool, tennis courts, baseball fields and the lake shore. There are several benches throughout the park from which to enjoy the natural scenery.
The center offers a popular Friday Family Roller Skate Night, programs for teens and several community gathering special events such as Neighborhood Night Out, Multicultural Dinner and Concert and Back-to-School Supplies Night.
