About The P-Patch
The Capitol Hill community is working on another P-Patch, the Howell Collective. The Howell Collective is a p-patch that will try a different style of community garden, a "collective" that does not have individual plots. The whole garden (not just the common areas) will be designed, planted, maintained, and harvested together by community members that sign on to work the community garden.
The Howell Collective P-Patch continues to work towards the creation of a P-Patch Community Garden space on 16th and East Howell in the Capitol Hill neighborhood. Like all P-Patch Community Gardens, the Howell Collective P-Patch works to support the feasibility of urban agriculture and food sovereignty, increase public green space, and bring neighbors together in nature.
While the City of Seattle has levied money to buy this parking lot for use as a future park and the Department of Neighborhoods has granted the project a match of 15k through their Neighborhood Matching Fund, we need your help to match the cities contribution. At this time the Howell Collective Garden will be meeting most Sundays at 5:30pm in the Bluebird community room on Pike between 12th and 13th, but please check our calendar at http://howellcollective.wordpress.com to be certain. Currently these are open meetings, all are welcome. We are discussing governance models, compiling a call to artists for some utilitarian garden art (table, signs, benches) we put in our budget, tuning our calendar of community events, and organizing public outreach efforts.
