PROJECT STATUS
Thank you, Seattle. This project is complete!
The dedication celebration was held May 19, 2007 during the Delridge Days and Resource Fair.
This project was delayed when Parks received higher-than-expected bids for the improvement project. Parks and the designer scaled back the project design, and the project was successfully re-bid in spring 2006. The plans were updated to accommodate rising construction material costs.
The changes/reductions are as follows (update plan below):- Cut and fill: Excavated materials will be used on site to elminate export costs.
- Play area development: Eliminate some concrete walkways and redundant play equipment, including one shelter and several climbers, as well as reducing the overall size of the play area. Also reduce wall lengths and simplify wall design.
- P-patch development: Elminate west wall system and simplify P-patch bed design, walls, fences and other design elements.
- Storm sewer: Low Impact Development, a sustainable urban design tool, have been employed, rather than traditional pipes and catch basins, reducing gravel road bed depths.
- Delridge Way Front Plaza: Eliminate furniture, pavement and basketball area.
- Puget Boulevard: Elminate all work on Puget Boulevard between 25th and 26th streets.
This development project will create one contiguous open space/park that includes the following passive and active recreational elements: unscheduled sports fields, playgrounds, plazas, picnic shelters, tables, benches, renovation of the P-patch, development of a grass court for lawn bowling and croquet type activities, tables, benches and wooded areas with native vegetation.
The parks were designed by Cascade Design Collaborative.
