| PROJECT DESCRIPTION |
In September 2006, Seattle City Council approved legislation authorizing
the acquisition of this site.
In August 2006, the Parks, Education, Libraries and Labor Committee of Seattle
City Council considered legislation for Seattle Parks' acquisition of the
northern 8,500 square feet of the site for a new park. Beveridge Investments
LLC will retain ownership of the southern portion of the site.
On May 4, 2006 the Seattle Monorail Project board voted to sell a 17,081
square foot property at 6401 California Ave SW to Beveridge Investments
LLC. The LLC signed a letter of intent to sell the northern portion of the
site to Seattle Parks.

At a public meeting on April 11, 2006 community members indicated to Parks
staff that the Monorail property was their top priority site for a new park.
Seattle Parks and Beveridge Investments LLC had each submitted bids for
the Monorail property, and the community indicated that they supported a
partnership between the two to create a new park and to preserve a popular
local business, the Beveridge Place Pub.
At its April 24, 2006 meeting, the Pro Parks Levy Oversight Committee voted
to support purchasing all or part of the Monorail site in lieu of the Morgan
Substation property.
The Levy project originally targeted City Light's Morgan Substation property
for acquisition, but the substation is not available from City Light at
this time, and it appeared that the substation site was not an ideal park
location or size.
The Pro Parks Levy includes funding for the purchase of property in the
Morgan Junction urban village for a new park as a Neighborhood Parks Acquisition
project. The Seattle City Light substation, located at 4118 SW Morgan St,
was originally targeted in the levy. Parks acquisition staff worked with
the community to identify potential alternate sites.
The Pro Parks Levy also provides funding to develop a park at the acquired
site. Planning for park development began in early 2007.
