Project Information

Location: 3700 S Alaska St, Seattle WA 98118

Project Status

Spring/Summer 2012
Seattle Parks and Recreation is happy to announce that construction for the Rainier Playfield Play Area begins on Monday, April 30, 2012. Parks anticipates construction lasting through the end of July 2012.

During construction the driveway to the concession stand and the asphalt lot near the play area and basketball courts will be will be fenced off to facilitate construction and staging. The play area will be closed during construction.

After rebidding the project, Parks awarded the construction contract to Maroni Construction in early April 2012.

Parks initially advertised the construction of this project in 2011. Our sole bidder was non-responsive and since site conditions limit the construction season for this area, the work was delayed until 2012.

The project will replace the existing play equipment and improve other site conditions related to the play area. The entry from S Oregon St. will be revised to meet ADA standards. The service access into the park from the corner will be reduced in width and the play area consolidated to the north side of the asphalt driveway. Picnic tables and BBQs will be added and located south of the revised service access (where the swings sets are now).

Play equipment includes new swings for tots and for older children, climbing structures, a seesaw spring toy and a variety of spinners.
