4H Challenge Course at Camp Long

Teambuilding. Communication. Group Problem Solving. Self-Advocacy.

A challenge course is a series of activities used for team building and personal development. Some of our activities may look similar to an adventure park, but at Camp Long our challenge programs use these activities, games, and select challenges to promote individual and group skills in communication, decision making, teamwork, problem-solving, and self-advocacy. Programs are designed and directed by certified facilitators and customized to meet your group goals. Camp Long can host programs indoors at the Lodge, on the park grounds, or on our purpose-built outdoor course. Portable programs can also be brought to your site.

Camp Long serves educational, community, and professional groups and organizations that serve elementary school aged kids through older adults. (Some activities are not appropriate for all ages.) Many activities can be adapted for diverse physical abilities.

Why Challenge?

The foundations of challenge programming are to offer a safe, supportive environment and respect for individual choice. Carefully designed challenge programming can provide a range of benefits for individuals and groups:

  • Reinforce self-esteem by experiencing individual & group success
  • Collaborate and cooperate with people with diverse perspectives and backgrounds
  • Give and receive feedback in a supportive, nonjudgmental fashion
  • Practice good listening with an intent to understand
  • Learn the value of team identity and interdependence among groups
