Magnuson Park - Mickey Merriam Playfields 6, 7 & 9 Turf Replacement

Updated: February 4, 2021

Early 2021

Field 7 is now open for play since January 7. Field 6 will open in February 2021. Field 9 will be closed during the month of February and will be open for scheduled play at the end of February 2021.

Seattle Parks and Recreation is investing in state-of-the-art synthetic turf systems that are safe, playable, and durable.

Seattle Parks and Recreation conducted condition assessments on all of our synthetic turf fields in 2018 and the results of these assessments informed both immediate maintenance action on the part of our parks resources and turf crews as well as the order in which the projects were funded for replacement.

We continue to lead the way to developing and installing alternate synthetic turf field design sections/materials and deliver a safe, durable, and playable athletic facility and experience.

This project will replace the aging synthetic turf at Magnuson Park - Mickey Merriam Playfields 6, 7 & 9 with new state-of-the-art synthetic turf systems. Field 9 is a combination of an artificial turf infield and a natural grass outfield. The artificial turf infield will be replaced. This will include the removal of the old 'worn out' synthetic turf and address any structural repairs to curbing, sub-subsurface, and drainage. Current synthetic turf systems will be installed for recreational play.

Design for the project has been completed by BCRA. Seattle Parks and Recreation awarded the construction contract to FieldTurf USA, Inc. in September 2020.
